Aloe Vera Sun or No Sun?

Aloe Vera succulents are popular for the soothing gel inside their thick leaves. That icky, gooey substance is used in skincare, cosmetics, and alternative medicines. It has a cooling property to it that is widely used for sunburn relief.

I have several Aloe Vera plants for sale. The thing to understand about these plants is they like heat but they don't like sun. They will actually get "sunburned" themselves if left out in the hot sun all day.

This is what an aloe plant looks like when it starts to get sunburned. It turns this brownish color. I forgot and had left this one out in the sun for a couple of days. When I noticed it, I stuck it back in a spot where it received early morning sun only and then was in the shade the rest of the day and within 2 days, it had perked right up.

See how much greener it is now!

This is the momma plant that I pulled all my baby plants off of. Every year it gets this tall flowery offshoot that's really pretty.

Every household should have an aloe plant. In the event of a burn from a cooking episode or a sunburn, you can go to your aloe plant, snip off the end of a stem and rub the aloe on that burn. You will never run out of aloe, because the plant continues to grow and multiply year after year.
